Chicago Photographer + Kelly Ry Photography bio picture

Welcome, welcome!

Whether it's my home or my blog, I love visitors.  The ones that come to my home to visit add something new and interesting to the mix of daily life. But then they leave again, forcing me to return to daily life without their smiles and laughter.  The great thing about blog visitors is that they can come again and again, and need never leave.

Photographer Vincent Versace said, "We came to photography because the world moves us in such a way that we want to photograph what we see so others can be moved the way we were."  And so it was for me.  Despite my deplorable skills with a canvas and paints, I found the joy of creativity with a camera.

So welcome.  Make yourself at home.  Enjoy the people in love, the gorgeous details, and adorable families.  I'd love to hear from you.

PS. And as much as I love having visitors, I love being a visitor!  Although based in Chicago, IL I have had the pleasure traveling around the world to capture weddings and families, and I would love to come visit you.  Live across the country (or continent) or planning a destination wedding?  I'm a wonderful guest.  And I bring my camera.

Families: The Osborns ~ More to come! ~ Portland Family Photographer

You may recall this family from here and here.  Nearly a year later they are still as sweet and gorgeous as ever. More to come!

July 23, 2010 - 11:32 am Molly W. - come on -more already!!! :)

July 14, 2010 - 1:20 pm abby osborn - outstanding my friend, how you are able to catch each kids personality perfectly. LOVE THEM AND LOVE YOU!!!!!!

Couples: Amy + Sam ~ Chicago Couples Photographer

Oh, Amy & Sam! I just wanted to squeeze them they were so adorable.  They were married last summer but never had formal engagement or wedding portraits taken so in celebration of Amy’s graduation from graduate school (a Masters in Comparative Literature with a Dissertation on a graphic novel – how cool is she!?) and landing a fantastic job as a college professor, they decided to treat themselves to a photoshoot with (lucky!) me.

We met up at the Lincoln Park Zoo on one of the warmest, most humid days I have ever experienced in my life but they were troopers and worked it like the secret-supermodels they are.

In these next two, I told Sam to work it like all Alaskan men do.

As Amy’s hooding ceremony at Northwestern University was the next day, we had to snap a few of her in her cap, gown & hood. CONGRATULATIONS, Amy!

July 12, 2010 - 5:21 pm Denise - Please ask her what product she uses to keep her hair so smooth and pretty in high humidity! (Gorgeous pictures, too, as always.)

July 7, 2010 - 3:00 pm Molly W. - ooo, so gorg. Her dress is to die for!! fun fun pics.

Families: The Morris’ ~ Portland Family Photographer

It almost didn’t happen.  Between a newborn’s erratic schedule, sleep-deprived parents, rain, rain and more rain, and, well, more rain, these photos almost failed to exist.  On my last afternoon in Portland we headed back to the charming gelato shop to document my sister and her new family of four. I love these guys.

July 6, 2010 - 12:02 pm Denise - LOVE me some Morrises!

July 6, 2010 - 11:18 am Molly W. - That gelato store served you well my friend! Glad you were able to squeeze in some time. Cute cute cute family.

Babies: Kellen ~ Portland Family Photographer

All of the munchkins I have the opportunity to photograph are sweet and adorable but those I am related to are somehow a tad sweeter and more adorable than the rest of the world’s population.  But c’mon, doesn’t this little face just melt your heart?

Kellen’s big sister could not possibly love him any more.

July 12, 2010 - 11:27 pm Brandi Morris - He IS soooo yummy. I must say that he is so squeezable and sweet that it makes me wish that I was 26 instead of 36 because then I would consider having a couple more just like him. :) Alas, we are old... Kelly really is the best. Incredible.

July 6, 2010 - 12:02 pm Denise - You're the best, Kelly. The best. Seeing these is the next best thing to having my hands on that little guy. Can't wait to squeeze him.

July 6, 2010 - 11:17 am Molly W. - He is SO yummy! Such a beautiful baby, Bran and Mike do nice work. :) (so does Aunt Kelly of course)

July 5, 2010 - 2:29 pm Tasha Schalk - I'm not even related to him, and I think he's absolutely adorable ;) I love the last one.
