Chicago Photographer + Kelly Ry Photography bio picture

Welcome, welcome!

Whether it's my home or my blog, I love visitors.  The ones that come to my home to visit add something new and interesting to the mix of daily life. But then they leave again, forcing me to return to daily life without their smiles and laughter.  The great thing about blog visitors is that they can come again and again, and need never leave.

Photographer Vincent Versace said, "We came to photography because the world moves us in such a way that we want to photograph what we see so others can be moved the way we were."  And so it was for me.  Despite my deplorable skills with a canvas and paints, I found the joy of creativity with a camera.

So welcome.  Make yourself at home.  Enjoy the people in love, the gorgeous details, and adorable families.  I'd love to hear from you.

PS. And as much as I love having visitors, I love being a visitor!  Although based in Chicago, IL I have had the pleasure traveling around the world to capture weddings and families, and I would love to come visit you.  Live across the country (or continent) or planning a destination wedding?  I'm a wonderful guest.  And I bring my camera.

Families: The Barkleys ~ Los Angeles Family Photographer

It was hard. So very, very hard. One of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make. In my life. (Ok, so that’s an exaggeration, but work with me here.)  Trust me, it was so very, very hard. Some how, some way though, I managed to choose a small selection of photos from this last of my LA family shoots.  I have NO IDEA how I did it.  But trust me, it was very, very hard.

Oh, the Barkleys.  Gorgeous. Handsome. Adorable. Squeezable. All-around fantastic. This family brought it all – adorable clothes & a fabulous home with amazing style but most of all, personality & charisma. Barkleys, it is shoots like yours that feed my creative soul and leave me begging for more.  Thank YOU.

(This next image makes me laugh EVERY time I see it.  It was all her idea but I promise no children were (permanently) harmed in the making of this photo.)

October 12, 2009 - 6:40 am Shari DeAngelo - Kelly this is an amazing body of work. The way you ran with it really worked. I don't think there is a single parent out there that doesn't really get this. Simply good story telling.

October 10, 2009 - 4:36 pm Sarah Lee - What an awesome session! I love how you just got right into their lives and showed their story! The fork this is kind of wierd though imo:)

October 10, 2009 - 9:44 am Phillip Allen - Best ... family portrait session ... ever! There's certainly still a valid market for traditional posed family photographs but this is exactly how I'd want my child's development to be documented. I really am very taken by this body of imagery.
