Chicago Photographer + Kelly Ry Photography bio picture

Welcome, welcome!

Whether it's my home or my blog, I love visitors.  The ones that come to my home to visit add something new and interesting to the mix of daily life. But then they leave again, forcing me to return to daily life without their smiles and laughter.  The great thing about blog visitors is that they can come again and again, and need never leave.

Photographer Vincent Versace said, "We came to photography because the world moves us in such a way that we want to photograph what we see so others can be moved the way we were."  And so it was for me.  Despite my deplorable skills with a canvas and paints, I found the joy of creativity with a camera.

So welcome.  Make yourself at home.  Enjoy the people in love, the gorgeous details, and adorable families.  I'd love to hear from you.

PS. And as much as I love having visitors, I love being a visitor!  Although based in Chicago, IL I have had the pleasure traveling around the world to capture weddings and families, and I would love to come visit you.  Live across the country (or continent) or planning a destination wedding?  I'm a wonderful guest.  And I bring my camera.

Quick Trip: Milwaukee

In between shooting weddings and some family portraits, I’ve been living the life of leisure.  It’s fun.  But to keep it from getting boring, I like to spice it up with short trips to places like Milwaukee.

Milwaukee.  When Milwaukee is a short trip away, that’s when you know you live in the Midwest, which, if I haven’t said it before, is not something I ever anticipated happening.

I must confess that I was pleasantly surprised with the city, knowing only that it was home to several breweries.  I found it to be a clean & charming city with a strong urban feel.  As my friend Jodi – who I was visiting – and I wandered the streets, I was envisioning family & wedding portraits done in the various grungy alleys and lush, green parks with iron bridges looming overhead.  In short, it was much cooler than I had anticipated.

Jodi is a friend I met through another friend back in LA several years ago.  Originally from the Milwaukee area, she recently returned from LA to be closer to the ones (and one in particular :-) ) that she loves.  Although I brought my camera with me, I pulled it out only once, when I made Jodi model for me.

Work it girl.
