It almost didn’t happen. Between a newborn’s erratic schedule, sleep-deprived parents, rain, rain and more rain, and, well, more rain, these photos almost failed to exist. On my last afternoon in Portland we headed back to the charming gelato shop to document my sister and her new family of four. I love these guys.

All of the munchkins I have the opportunity to photograph are sweet and adorable but those I am related to are somehow a tad sweeter and more adorable than the rest of the world’s population. But c’mon, doesn’t this little face just melt your heart?

Kellen’s big sister could not possibly love him any more.

In one of the rare two or so hour breaks in rain while I was in Portland in May, I spent some time playing with this family outside in their uh-mazing backyard that borders a stream and has all sorts of tall grass to hide in. I could have photographed them there all day.

I adore this family. And it’s not because they’ve hired me document their family 3 times in less than a year but because they’ve asked me to document their family 3 times in less than a year. I realize that sounds like a contradiction but it’s really not, promise. It is an honor to have the opportunity to capture a family several times throughout a year, to document the growth of two young boys and their continuing connection of a family of four. To have a family recognize and appreciate the value of photographs is, well, wonderful.

Remember this face here and here? Isn’t he just getting bigger and cuter everyday?

Due to the never-ending Portland rain (at least it felt like it for the 10 days I was there), we decided to meet in a gelato shop. YUM.

One of the great things about photographing a family several times is to see the development of personalities in the littlest ones.

As a birthday gift to myself, I am carving out the time to resume blogging – be on the look out for several new posts in the coming days!
